How long have you been in your industry?40
Why did you choose your industry?I started in television, editing in TV News and one thing lead to another.
Who are your typical clients?Usually corporate producers, either in-house or freelance. Companies that have an on-going need for video services in training, education storytelling.
What do you like best about being in this industry?Always something to learn and different most days.
What are common problems you see?The "democratization" of access to the technology has muddied the water as to who is qualified and experienced or not. Because "anyone" can do it, doesn't mean that "everyone" can do it... or do it well.
What advice/tips do you have for clients? You should be looking for some one with a professional record of work. really communicate and know what you need and seek venders who are interested in serving your message and not their resume.
When is your busy season?Pretty consistent over the year. Historically, July, November/Dec is slower.
What keeps you up at night?Clients not actually knowing what they want, yet somehow looking for something very specific.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I have tried everything from SEO to Yellow pages and word of mouth remains the most effective way.
How involved are you in the community?I have supported several non-profits through my work, the Boys and Girls Club, several Humanitarian Organizations and quite a bit for education as well.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Boys and Girls Clubs
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?I reccomend you find a position that will let you hone your abilities and really decide what it is you want to do. For me, a TV station news department gave me many, many experiences in storytelling, deadlines, working in a team and seeing the results of your work on a daily basis. That much volume is very hard to duplicate on your own from scratch and has led to a network of people I work with.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Music
